Aunty Bev

My Grandma Rea, Aunty Bev Rea and my beautiful cousin Jess Rea. Taken at my wedding 7yrs ago.

I'd like to dedicate this post to my Aunty Bev, as she is not in the best of health at the moment and she has always been one of my biggest fans of my photography. My Aunty Bev has to be one of the most toughest, resilient and strong women I know. She raised a family of 3, in fairly rough conditions at times, teaching them all primary school before sending them off to boarding school. She has worked hand in hand (literally as there aren't many jobs on the station she wouldn't have done) with her husband to build the small empire that they currently have, with each of their children owning their own cattle stations. Not only is she a strong woman, but she has an extremely kind heart and would offer help to anyone and is always quick for a yarn.
I recall one day that she phoned me and told me about how she was on her way to town and had to stop (in her town clothes mind) and pull a bogged cow out of the dam (I won't divulge her age, but she's no longer a spring chicken I'll say that). Now I'm sure that she had other people who were at her disposal that could have easily been called on a two-way or phone, but my Aunty Bev is the sort of woman that wouldn't leave a job to be done that she could do herself.  So while my Aunty may be a fan of my photos, but I am a huge fan of hers and although I never got to spend as much time with her as I may have wished, she has always been a treasure in my life and I'm very grateful to have her in it.

I had to spend a bit of time getting to know my new flash in preparation for the wedding that I'm photographing, so these are some of the shots that I took.

In the wisdom of those people sitting at their desks in Brisbane observing the ground via a satellite image, they decided that the road needed to be lower. As such we got to witness the explosion which we thought was pretty impressive. The guy who did the blast said that it was only going to be a little puff of dirt, so we would be pretty excited to see what he thought was a big one. Fortunately we were well safe back on the road with the blast guard at the time of the explosion.

If I had know that the sky was going to turn it on so much on this particular afternoon, I would have found a better location but as it was, when I realised I had two naked children running around my house after having a bath, so I couldn't go to far.

Picking flowers for grandma that we ended up forgetting.

I just find paper bark trees so majestic. I feel like I can never manage to capture their true beauty.

When you've got kids that belong to a photographer, they have their fake smiles downpat!

I did a series of images as a "oil painting" setting on my editing software and I really like how they turned out, they seem to be able to capture the romantic side to the images that isn't quite there as a photograph. Above is the oil painting version and below is the still.

It's a bit hard to actually appreciate the oil affect on a small screen but blown up on my computer, I quite like it.

When the golden glow of the afternoon sun hit these trees its simple magical.

I dunno why these impacted leaves from the previous flood caught my eye. I'm not sure if this would have been from just one flood or from numerous.

From my Phone:

Out and about with the kids exploring our new home.

Checking out some of our agistment country. I must come back here one afternoon and take some more photos.

Trying to get all the dogs up for a photo was a bit of an impossible task.

No we don't have a favourite dog.... Chief...

We went up to check out the big gravel pit on the weekend and to have smoko on the top of the highest mound.

Justin turned out our heifers to the new agistment paddock.

Meanwhile we had a week of mini-school which was awesome. This time I chose not to do any training session, I found that in the past I had come away from mini-school feeling more exhausted that going into it, so this time I decided that I needed the respite more than anything, so I spent the time catching up with the other mums and doing a few town jobs at my leisure.

Miss got to dress in her town clothes.

We had a pedicure with a couple of the other mums.

I got to have a guilt free soak without being concerned about using too much rain water.

Garrett with Harry, Libby in the middle, Jacob out the back in the spinner and Lucy, Kaka and Ella in the other end.

Garrett has his first book week and he wanted to be a dinosaur.... but when we went shopping as a result of the high availability of Harry Potter and low availability of dinosaur costumes, I convinced Garrett that his favourite book was Harry Potter.

Garrett with the rest of his class from mini-school.

Jackie, Me, Ange, Bonni and Taneisha
I have been telling all my other friends about all the new friends that I've made at school but this is the first photo that we've managed to get together, I think everyone was starting to think that I might have imagined them.

We came home from mini-school with a new semi-wild pet. Meet Sarg. However, I thought after a few days of being in the house, getting fed and lots of pats and love and sleeping in a cushy bed that he would be inclined to stick around, but alas I was wrong, he still pops in a winges for food, but I don't know that he's going to be a house cat. We will still need to work on that.

Them eyes!!

Looking good dad!

Well that's a wrap for another post. I am about to go and pack for our weekend away at my dear friend Mango's wedding.... finally!!!! How exciting and I'm their photographer which has me feeling rather excited and nervous but it will be a great experience. Not to mention so lovely to be able to be part of their special day.

I'm about to read a book "For the Love of Soil" and I think it's going to be really interesting. Something a bit lighter than all the Holocaust reading that I have been doing lately.

Take care people. I hope you are all steering clear of this flu that is going around. We all caught it, but I guess you can't dodge them all.

If you can't be anything else, be kind.
