Thank You Owen

Unless you've been living under a rock...... or anywhere other than Queensland. You would probably know about cyclone Owen and it's over, up, around and down trek and now I think it's going back up again. We have been very fortunate to have received 112ml yesterday and they are still predicting another inch for today but we aren't too worried now, all our dams are full and the creek is flowing. So we are grinning from ear to ear with our early xmas present. Everything is green again. 

The cyclone brought with it some lovely clouds and I managed to capture a few images one afternoon. 

I know this is probably a little hard to see but it was such a lovely sky.

Before the rain event we went out to check on everything and had to do a few running repairs, I was in trouble for being on my camera instead of helping out..... one of the set-backs of being married to a photographer.

We have some really lovely calves this year but of course my bull would get the blame for all the speckly bellies!

We will have a bit of sweat coming out of us for not getting these monkeys branded before xmas, but that's the price you pay for getting some lovely rain! 

These little dudes have been our residents lately while the mangoes have been on the tree. They even came over to eat the golden cane flowers. 

 

I know this photo above looks a bit over edited, but it was really that colour. We had a lovely little storm go through over a week ago which gave us 45ml in about 30 minutes and started to green everything up for us. With this recent rain from Owen, everything is looking amazing! I was so disappointed that I didn't manage to get my camera to capture the storm before it arrived because it was so spectacular.

I liken taking photos of lightening to digging for gold. You just get ready to pack up and then there's another big strike, so you get all excited again.

Aunty Ange and Uncle Jase came to collect their horse "Dolly"/ "She'sAGem" that I had been breaking in for them. They were really happy with her, so lets hope that she can run straight!

My darling husband managed to get all our seed out in between the 45ml and the 112ml we got yesterday and I'm so excited to report that it has germinated! How awesome! Farmer of the year!

Anyhow I'm off to put up our xmas tree. I'm so excited this year, as I've been getting G-man excited about Santa Claus, so I think that he's going to be all over it this year. 

I probably won't get to post again until after xmas so I hope you all have a very Merry and safe xmas and prosperous new year xxx 

Sunrise and Sheep Stations

How is it, that a month has past since I last wrote. As usual I will try to let the photos do the talking. These were taken at Coral Cove near Bundaberg. I have become a bit of a morning person (I know, no one is more shocked than I), anyhow, it was nice to get up and watch the sun rise over the ocean.

The building in the photo above is where we stayed for the night. It was fitted out to sleep 9 people and it only cost $300/ night. Amazing little spot and such a lovely hotel!



Sooooo on the 25th of October, my good friends Jamie and Sandy McCartney welcomed their second daughter into the world. Victoria Jocelyn McCartney, weighing 3020g, length 49cm and 4 weeks and 3 days early. Fortunately everything went fairly well for the premy little lady and they were home after a week. When I found out that Jamie was pregnant again and would have 2 girls only 13 mths apart, I offered to come down for a couple of weeks to lend a hand. So I left my two boys at home to fend for themselves while KaKa and I went to Bundy. Was wonderful to be able to spend time with the little family and I even got to take a few family photos.

Jamie has the most beautiful eyes! I just love taking pictures of her!

 We've had a few dingoes around lately. One of our lick truck drivers found a calf with a severed spine that had to be put down from a dog attack.

While I was away in Bundy, the boys managed to do a bit of fishing.

When I left Jamie and Sandy's I had a couple of days up my sleeve of Justin looking after Garrett, so I opted to go and visit my other close friend, Sheree who is care-taking at Chinchilla.

I've never mustered sheep before so it was a new experience. I really loved being able to travel around and see people and see some new country.

Sheree had a lovely little horse called Kinema that was quiet enough for me to take KaKa for a ride which she absolutely loved. She was just in her element! Loved it.  

Sheree had, had a few dramas with this big fella trying to load him on the float (photo doesn't do his size justice), so I volunteered to spend some time with him.... 3 hours later and I managed to get him on the float. I was kicking myself cause I had forgotten my gloves and I ended up with rope burns on both hands, but I was glad I had a victory.

Was so annoyed that these next few photos didn't turn out, my lens must have been dirty.  

Then all too soon it was over and I made the journey back home. Was missing my boys though.  

We stopped in Wowan and KaKa had her first pie.

Here are some snippets of my baby girl. She love the merry-go-round.... and she has discovered sugar!! She's gonna be such a handful! 

Well lovely people I shall leave you, still hoping for some rain, although there is a cyclone off the coast, so fingers crossed. All our dams are very low, so we are in much need of some running water, but the forecast is only for an inch, cyclones are so unpredictable though. 

I've recently accepted the role of secretary at our local show, so I'm going to be a bit busy with that this year I think. It's all a bit over my head at the moment, so I hope that it all comes together. 

The book I'm reading at the moment is called "Infinite Minds" written by Kim Forrester and it talks about different true stories of people escaping death or severe injury by following their intuition, even if it seems irrational. It also talks about how the government, police and military have used psychics, viewers or mediums to solve different cases through history. Very intriguing.
