Colours of the Lagoon

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that most of the country is in severe drought and while we aren't suffering as badly as some others, we are still desperate for some rain.

Last year we had a dozer driver "fix" one of our dams; however, when the big fella and I looked at it, we both went "hmmmm that bi-wash looks a bit too high". We were right, and I think I posted pictures some time ago, when the dam blew out and now has a big tunnel right in the middle of the bank. Subsequently, we now have an empty dam, which means that we have to cart water *sigh*! So we have a 10,000L tank on the back of our truck that we drive to our submersible and fill up every 3-4 days.

The only plus side of this operation is that it takes about an hour to pump up and it gives me time to sit in my newly found smoko spot and take some photos. I absolutely love the colours in the water and it really makes me feel inspired to try my hand at painting again! I'm just not sure where I will find the time.

Probably not so obvious in the above photo (swirl in the water), but there is also a big fish in this lagoon, so my next trip I'm taking a rod and going to see if I can catch it!

My big poser!

How awesome would this tree be for a family photo shoot!

This is my new smoko spot that overlooks the lagoon! It's very relaxing I must say!

What do you reckon is at the bottom of that stick?

Do you know what this thing is? There was a heap of them in our dam.

I thought this one was funny!

In other news, I bought myself a very expensive Xmas present, in that I got a new camera! I absolutely love it!! All these photos are from it and I got a little carried away taking so many shots of the clouds. The big fella and I called these "Stripper Clouds", because the are full of false hope and promises; get you really excited and then don't deliver!

I love these trees, it's a shame that the milky way has gone for the year as I would love to take some photos of them with the milky way behind. By the time it returns, these trees will be full of leaves again.

Tide is in.

Saw this massive mob of pelicans, so I got the big fella to take me closer to get some photos........

"Rightio Honey, now make them move for me!!"

Old Pirate is in pretty good condition considering that she has a calf now!

From my phone:

I've spoken of my dear friends Greer and Mango in previous posts. Sadly due to complications during surgery to treat a fractured hip, Greer's mum passed away. I guess one of the blessings about being self employed, I was able to drop everything and go to town to babysit for them while they were in hospital and making the necessary arrangements. Leaving Justin home to muster and process cattle that we had booked into the sale.

Hanging out with little Brooklyn

Girls watching TV

I managed to read a book.

Back home again and more water runs and lick runs. We have to keep up regularly as cattle have been getting bogged and this one we believe may have suffered from nitrate poisoning. We have most of our dams fenced off now with electric tape, to make sure that none get stuck.

We seem to be doing a lot of travelling lately and we don't need much of an excuse to have a pub feed!

The big fella and I took a weekend to go and fence sit at a Clinton Anderson/ Ian Francis horse training school. I found it really good and I learnt a few new things. Clinton Anderson has become a bit people sour I think though. I'd say from years of dealing with difficult horse owners. I think he needs to go back to horse training and spend less time with people. He was very entertaining though. Ian however, was more hands on and I think we would have benefitted more from doing a clinic, as opposed to just watching him.

Pulling a cow out of the bog.... sadly she didn't make it, I thought she might, but she had been in there too long I think.

Was about 5 wallabies underneath this bus!

The heat has meant that a compulsory swim in the afternoons is absolute!

Don't ask me what she think's she's doing!!! Can't wait for her 21st!

Only I could get bogged in the middle of a drought!!!!!! Was trying out my new camera, taking photos of swans and not really paying attention to where I was driving! Damnit! Big fella reckons I owe both him and Garrett a carton!

I'm not sure why I felt the urge to bake, as everywhere we went had an absolute surplus of food! But I suppose it's that time of year and you can't go wrong with Sago Plumb Pudding!

My smoko buddy with her teddy while we wait for the tank to pump up!

Some days the whirl winds are that bad, when I look from the house I think there's a fire.

Me, Stew and Mum!

Another year, another xmas! Came and went! As always..... waaaaayyy tooooo much food! But was lovely to catch up with all the family and the kids were right into the whole Santa deal this year which was cool! We did the lights on Xmas Eve and G-man and Kaka were both right into their Santa sacks in the morning! 5am START!!!

Mum and Hayley

After Xmas, we went home for a day to check everything and then after that we headed out to Springsure for Great Grandad Spike's 80th. Was nice to see Justin's side of the family and some of them which we'd never met and some we hadn't seen for 10 years or more.

I also got to duck over to see Sheree and her kids and have a good catch up! Kaka was in her element when they saddled up little Sam and led her around the house yard.

Also gave us the opportunity to catch up with Justin's sister Fooz's kids! They all insisted in having a bath together!

So that's me all caught up! I've found a new album from Miranda Lambert and these are two of my favourites at the moment Dark Bars and Tequila Does

I'll sign off now for 2019 and look forward to 2020. Lets hope that the coming year brings us all some good juju! And some rain would be real nice!
