Working and Working Bees

Droopy Lip :)
So have been a little busy since my last blog. Selling some fats for us and the in laws. We went out to Springsure to muster some fats. Lovely couple of days work despite the fact I was riding in hubby's saddle because I had broken my fender and few days before, mustering dad's cattle. Unfortunately even on the last hole I could still only just touch, so I was a little bit sore afterwards  needless to say. The worst part about working so far away from home is that it takes a whole day just to pack up and get there, so to do anything you have to allow two days just for travel. But that's just what you have to do sometimes I guess.

waiting
waiting
still waiting

The last day we were there packing up, there were some weaners in a paddock I had just mustered the day before. Thinking that I had done a dodgy job, I was less than impressed. Justin went to see what had happen whether they had broke back in or if I had left them behind. Turns out they had crawled in from a different paddock all together. The waiting however, for me and the dogs, wasn't much fun considering that I had thought that I had been incompetent the whole wait.

Trying to get my camera to do what my eyes do, didn't work.

Getting rid of some fats and odd sods.
We then had our own cattle to muster. Was a bit of a spur of the moment thing because we managed to get some space at the meatworks. I was being a little unappreciative of my husband here because he had done a wonderful job to secure us the space, however, mustering 7 paddocks in one day to rassel the odds and ends we had to sell wasn't my idea of fun.
After we loaded the truck we headed out to pick up our own truck which had been left down the paddock from a previous muster, but then it had rained so then we were only just able to get it back out.

Our beautiful road, thanks council for doing a top job as always.

Cows are out there..... somewhere... in the bushes......

Leading up to our local show we trying to get a bit of cattle work done. But mustering is sometimes a bit tricky when you can only see 5 feet in front of you. I'm sure the cows just stand really still sometimes so we walk right past them

Some days you have to admire the little things.
President doing what he does best.... delegate.

Our local show is a bit of a highlight of the year for us, but there is quite a lot of work involved and without being a part of it you would never realise the amount of work that goes into organising even such a small event. I cant' imagine how much preparation goes into the Ecca.

The working bee on Tuesday and Friday of this week meant that it was difficult to achieve a lot for the rest of the week. We mustered on Monday and has guests Wednesday and Thursday (I dedicated these days to cooking although they were failures as you can see).

Drizzle cake..... fail.... not enough drizzle

Stop work meeting at working bee.

I entered 15 photos, cakes, slice, craft. I got nothing for my cooking, only one photo got a prize and my craft didn't fair so well either. However, my horse ran fabulously and we won the time trial (a bit of an obstacle course for a bit of crowd entertainment). Our dog also came second in the dog jump (where they jump into the back of ute, but they gradually add boards to make it higher, last dog to make it up wins). So I think next year I will stick to what I know, horses and dogs.

Nougat... fail.... it melted

Fruit cake.. yummy but competition was fierce
Honeycomb... fail.... also melted!
The show day went off without a hitch, despite a very threatening cyclone moving down the coast with the thick humidity and the stifling heat, I guess the dehydration from the day made it easy for all the beer to be consumed by midnight.
My second place flora photo.

Second place for man on horse and third for other horses.

My decorated bottle, this was my favourite.

I recently bought a great number of thongs thinking it would be a fabulous business venture and I would make a killing, but unfortunately, I think the Marlborough show is not the sort of crowd I'm going to need to sell them. Oh well show is all over for another year. Looking forward to our break up party.

Mum's favourite.

Mum managed to sell one pair of my thongs... oh well.
