Ballgowns, Birthdays and Broken Bones

Let's start with the pretty part of the post. The stunningly beautiful Darci-Jaye and her partner Tom at their recent formal. I can't tell you how much fun I had capturing this pair and how much DJ is just as gorgeous inside as she is on the outside. Our little 'fun fairy' was a pleasure to shoot and while my time was a bit limited, I think we still managed to get a few cracker shots in.

I was so grateful that Sonya trusted me with capturing such a special time.

How cool is the car!!!

Being end of term when these photos were done, I drove home to begin preparations to go to Pony Club Camp at Capella. This involves a full day of packing and preparing horses and bags and gear and food. Fortunately mum had the week off and so she could help me get everything sorted.

I volunteered to do a photography session with each of the groups at camp and while at times, I did regret my offer, it was nice thing to be able to do for them and I think some of the kids really enjoyed it. I only had one parent who was a bit difficult and even afterwards when presented with the free images, was still not grateful or satisfied. With 18 groups to photograph in 3-4 different locations, I was taking 600-700 shots per group (trying to get horses ears pricked). Which left me with about 12,000 photos to go through and cull and edit. Definitely not something I will be doing every year... well not as a donation anyhow.

My poor kids didn't really get the same care and attention as everyone else, but I still got a couple of them which was nice too.

And with that amount of images to go through, I haven't done much else with my camera this month.

From my Phone:

Soooo we put munchkin in the freezer. While I rarely admit my husband is right.... he was right!!! Wild pig is not very tasty. So now I have a whole damn pig in my freezer to try and work out what I am going to do with and how I can disguise the very piggy flavour. I might just quietly add that while my husband is away, the dogs do get well fed.

G man, had a bit of a fainting episode at the beginning of the holidays and informed us that, that wasn't his first time. So off to the Dr we went. We are current waiting for the results of an MRI and bloods, however, I have since spoken to a number of people that have experience the same and stated that they tend to grow out of it. But we did relish the opportunity to grab a donut and soft serve... not sure why this isn't a thing.

Frappes were a hit at camp.

Some sparkles on their ponies.

Carlos did look very pretty.

G man got the Helen Hatte memorial award.

I was so damn proud of him. This is exactly the type of award that I want my kids to be getting. Just those awards for being recognised for being decent humans. Kaka also go the sportsmanship award in her group as well. I may have shed a few tears.

Smoke had a puppy.... kids have called it "Storm". It's getting very fat being an only pup.

After camp, the Murdock family followed us home to help tail weaners. To be honest, I don't know how I would have managed without them. It was such a cup filler to have them come and join our team and Kaycee and Kaka just click so well together. They just have the cutet little bond and are always together chatting away. It's just the best.

Lexi, Kaycee, Kaka and G man. Lexi and G man used to be in the same class together at school, so it was nice for them to hang out together again too.

Me and Jackie... and Betty because she hurt her leg. Max is actually starting to be a decent sort of horse. I decided to love him. I just bought him a rug the other day.

All too soon they had to go home. But much fun was had and it just so lovely when you have those people in your life that can just come and just fit in and it's easy.

"Oh no little piggy.... what happened"

NB: this is not munchkin

He was big enough.

Tough gig.

Last night of the holidays calls for pizza!

AND.... partly because we all had a touch of the flu and mostly because it was kaka's 9th birthday, we decided to take an extra day off school.

And miss decided we were going fossicking.

And having Parmis for lunch.

And while I think her cake looked a little like a haemorroid... she was happy with it, so that's all that matters.

Justin's mare had her baby. "Whiskers" which is his nickname for now, is very cute and has a lot of bling considering his two plain bay parents.

After our short week of school, we had weaners to blood and turn out. So that was our Saturday. Weaners were very happy for a grassy paddock that we had been spelling for the whole year.

And Sunday..... was not cold... but it gave me the opportunity to pack. And to try on clothes and make sure they all still fit for my upcoming trip to iceland. Hard to believe but the next time I post here, I will have been. Only two weeks to go.

Kaka reading to Smoke's puppy.

Oh yes... and then, week 2 of school was also a bit short because someone did themselves a mischief. Him and his sister were playing on the concrete pipe we have near the dog kennels and he slipped.

Both his front teeth and his lip. We thought his lip would need suturing, so we decided to travel to Rocky for a decent surgeon. Not to mention that was where our dentist is as well. So after we had dinner and Justin checked a couple of waters, we left home at 8:30pm and arrive in Rocky at 1am. Fortunately, I had been exhausted that afternoon prior to the incident and I sat down for a rest and proceeded to sleep for an hour. Which came in handy for staying up until 1am driving.

You may be wondering about my title "broken bones". Well, when he told me that his teeth and lip didn't hurt as much as his arm did, I was fairly confident that he had also fractured his arm. And sure enough he had. Luckily it was a clean break and did not need surgery. So, there we have it. My accident prone first born, adding to his chart. His lip, did not require sutures either, which was a relief, as by the next morning it had swollen to be filled in. So the day was spent at the base waiting for xrays and back slabs and then going to the dentist. Luckily Justin was able to come with us and while I had other dentist appointments of my own and a few town jobs to get done, he accompanied Garrett everywhere.

And that's a wrap. Garrett is now trying to keep out of trouble and getting a fair share of computer and TV time and I'm sure Cruise is appreciating the respite.

The count down till Iceland is on. The count down to the end of the year is on!! I cannot wait until school term is over. I feel like it has been a very long and draining year. The education system is not what it was when we first started and I feel like the gap between parent and teacher is broadening, which just makes us all not want to be there.

I have just finished reading "Shadow of the Osprey" which is another rather graphic novel from Peter Watt. While this one is nowhere near as graphic as that first, it was still a greatly eloquent and well written novel and I am ready for the next one.

My favourite song at the moment is "Graveyard Shift" from Travis Dixon. Bit dark but it appeals to me.

And With Love I will leave you.
