Kind of appropriate that I would have the marching procession caterpillars at the start of my Anzac March post. Although they are awful and can cause horses to abort from a single hair. They are very interesting.
Missy getting the bug helping to inspire me a little. I've probably banged on about it before but I feel like I'm loosing my mojo a bit with photography and entering a few competitions lately, it shows because my images aren't scoring well.
Need to just get back into the fun of it I think. Over the school holidays my sister-in-law and her family came to visit. Was so lovely to see them all. I love it when cousins hang out together. G man had loads of fun riding motorbikes with Darcy and interestingly enough, hasn't been back on since.
Last week our pony club took part in the Anzac March and it was really cool thing to be apart of.
One of our club members used to work at a florist and whipped this up at the last minute. Was very cool I thought.
I recently the entered the Salon of Excellence (which I do nearly every year). Last year I didn't place at all. But this year, I entered the 'elements' category and got 1st, 2nd and 3rd with these 3 images.
To be honest, I felt a bit undeserving. I think a lot of the enterants didn't read the fine print, as it was meant to be a creative image and a lot that were entered were just a single shot. So I think I kinda won by default. Anyhow, still nice to be getting a bit of a win on the board, as my other images have not been scoring well lately.
From my phone
I knew it... I knew this stupid thing would do that!!! These are BACK TO FRONT!!! Again Grrr. So going backwards in time.
The noble cat.
Spent an afternoon baking a cake for my friend Greer who shares his birthday with mum and we went to visit them for a night.
Coffee cake with coffee-custard buttercream and peanut brittle fragments. The photo doesn't really do justice to the size as I made a triple batch, it's about a foot tall. It was terrible cold but when heated up it was pretty damn good if I do say so myself.
Nothing quite like a good fire.
They have the most beautiful piece of petrified wood there! I just love it.
We also stopped at a 'historical site' and I'm not too sure if we found the right spot, but these rocks were cool! I have a thing for rocks if you didn't already know that by now.
Bought a blueberry. I'm not sure how successful I will be, but we shall see how we go.
Aunty Sheree handed down some cute little fairy ornaments which kaka wasted no time in adding to her garden.
Bit of cloud in the stratosphere this morning, not sure what that means exactly.
Still little enough that dad can hold her up.
Nice to have a few quiet podies.
Justin unloading some supplies for our much anticipated fencing and pipeline project. Thanks to our lovely neighbours that we could borrow their loader for the job.
We also had a rally day on the weekend and G man got 'most improved', so he was pretty happy with himself.
Shaylee and Kaka having a ball together.
On route to the rally day.
Learning to make honeycomb.
Oh how I wish I could be this cat some days.
So there was a meteor shower and even though I missed the peak due to bad weather, I thought I would still get some action so randomly took the kids, mid week to go camping at the swamp.
Campfire noodles
Best cup of tea EVA. I hope these kinds of things are the things that the kids remember. My photo turned out to be a flop and so much so that I accidentally deleted it. So that's obviously how bad it must be lol. Not to worry, the kids are keen to do it again. We might just need to invest in a third stretcher as I'm afraid I did not get much sleep!
Easter Day. Kids were up early of course for their easter hunt and I believe they might be starting to ask a few suspicious questions.
Grandma helping with the easter hamper creations.
With the wall family all together, we went to Rubyvale for the day and did some fossicking.
And grandma was on her way out from Rocky so she called in as well.
Darcy, Melissa, Mia and Christian.
My noble steed that didn't buck me off despite having a long respite, so I was grateful for that.
This cow used to belong to Jesus I'm pretty sure she's his vintage.
And we were most opportunistic when we heard we had some helpers coming, we roped them into helping us brand the wagyus and I was very grateful to get them done!
So good to see some grass where it once was bare.
My little helper
Scaling the canyon
Gosh these guys are freaky!
Managed a miracle in getting the kids pony club saddle clothes clean! Not sure how that happened! I should have taken a 'before' photo.
My tomatoes growing and some herbs. I even made some basil pesto which the big fella seems to enjoy.
Having an afternoon ride with the kiddos
Schultz did his leg... again... in the same spot as last time! Least it's not as bad this time. Hopefully by now he is good. I bandaged for a few weeks, but it's difficult to get the bandage to stay up, so when most of it had healed, I just left him to sort it out. I must go and check on him.
Always amazes me how they can heal! Sorry if you have a weak stomach. A human would need so much care and attention for this. I just gave him a course of antibiotics and a tetus and bandages in less than sterile conditions and he healed.
Did some upcycling with my bedside lamp. I need to do the other one now.
Anyhow, that's a wrap from me. I started this blog about a week ago and then the week just got away from me, but here we are, a week into May already. The days feel awfully short and we haven't even hit the winter solstice yet.
Our pipeline and fencing project still hasn't begun and it feels like the storey that never ends. I'm so sick of it! I vow to never do another project again. Between dozer inavailability and the weather (NOT COMPLAINING) and trying to get my husband to work out what EXACTLY, he wants to do in the plan, it's all been a very tedious and drawn out saga and it hasn't really even begun yet. At least we have some supplies now.. .and with some luck the dozer might be ready by the weekend. I feel like I've been putting things off and canceling plans since the end of last year because we are supposed to be busy doing this.
Anyhow, bit of a rant... sometimes you think you could be one of those town women, who has a regular job and whose kids go to a normal school and I could go get my nails done all the time. Then I remember that you're not allowed to just light random fires in town and I come to my senses.
With that I might sign off.
With Love and Campfire Tea xx
